Setting: a party at Fedora's house, Paris, France, late 19th century
Synopsis: Fedora has found out that Count Loris killed her fiance, Vladimir, and swears to avenge his death. As the first step in her plan to capture Loris, she goes to Paris and attempts to get him to fall in love with her. He does and she eventually gets him to confess that he did kill Vladimir but only in self-defense when he caught his wife and Vladimir together and Vladimir shot at him. She feels sorry for what she has done. He continues, saying that someone has been stalking him ever since and it has made him a nervous wreck. He wishes that he could return to Russia.
