Un ignoto, tre lune or saranno, Massimiliano's aria from I Masnadieri

Un ignoto, tre lune or saranno,
mi narrò che il mio Carlo era spento;
svenni, oppresso da subito affanno,
e creduto fu morte il sopor.
Risensando, mi trovo serrato
fra quattr'assi: mi scuoto, lamento . . .
S'alza il panno . . . Francesco ho da lato.
"Come? risusciti ancor?"
Ricomposto e qui tratto il ferétro,
ne levàro il coperchio di nuovo;
"Rovesciate laggiù quello spettro,
troppo ei visse!" mio figlio gridò.
Preghi, pianti suonarono invano,
m'han gittato in quell'orrido covo:
e fu desso, il mio figlio inumano,
che dell'antro le porte serrò.
