Jo March (mezzo-soprano), One of the March daughters. Loved by Laurie, later loved by Bhaer. Against change, wishes things could remain "perfect as they are".

Meg March (mezzo-soprano), The oldest March daughter. Marries John Brooke.

Beth March (soprano), One of the March daughters. Often ill. Dies of scarlet fever.

Amy March (soprano), The youngest March daughter. In love with Laurie.

Laurie (Theodore Lawrence) (tenor), Neighbor to the March family. Jo's best friend, outside of her sisters. Begins as a suitor to Jo, later marries Amy.

John Brooke (baritone), Laurie's tutor. Suitor and then husband to Meg.

Friedrich Bhaer (bass-baritone), A German professsor that lives across the hall from Jo in New York. He is in love with her.

Alma March (mezzo-soprano), The mother of Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy. Married to Gideon March.

Gideon March (bass), Father of Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. Married to Alma.

Mr. Dashwood (bass), Publisher of The Daily Volcano, a fiction tabloid in Manhattan.

Cecilia March (contralto), The rich aunt who takes Amy to Europe to study art.
