Guerrier, che d'un acciaro, Aufidio's aria from Lucio Silla

Guerrier, che d'un acciaro	Let the warrior who blenches
Impallidisce al lampo, At the flash of steel
A dar non vada in campo Not go upon the battlefield
Prove di sua viltà. In order to lay bare his cowardice.

Se or cede a un vil timore,	Yielding, now to craven fear,
Se or cede alla speranza,	Now to hope,
E qual sarà incostanza (What, if not this,
Se questa non sarà? Is unstedfastness?)
