The Aria Database is a collection of information about opera and operatic arias.

Besides providing basic information about each aria, the Database includes translations for many arias and aria texts for those that are not affected by copyright restrictions. The Database also provides access to a collection of operatic sound files to give visitors an idea of what each aria sounds like. In addition, the Aria Database contains information on available scores and sound files that can be purchased to aid in study and enjoyment. Currently, the Database holds information on the complete operatic aria collections of Mozart, Verdi, Berlioz, Wagner, and Puccini as well as the partial collections of over 50 other composers.

Aria Database Redesigned

As frequent users of this website might notice, the Aria Database has been completely redesigned. This redesign includes the actual database, which has had both the database structure and the database search engine built from scratch to provide quicker and more powerful access to the Aria Database's information. We have also begun the process of revamping the data in the database to make sure it is consistent, accurate, and of higher quality. We encourage you to check out the features of the new Aria Database interface. Additional features will be added as well when we feel like they are ready for public consumption!

The new database is now in beta testing, which means that there are a few bugs that we hope you will help us find as you use it. You may find errors in both data and in searches. Please be assured that we know about the data inconsistencies and they are being fixed. However, we would like to know about search errors. Please use the contact form to send us any information you can about these errors.

If you become frustrated by these errors or just want to use the old interface, you may use the Traditional Search for a while longer. However, please try the new interface because eventually it will completely replace the old interface.

New Opera Added

In honor of our redesigned website and database, we have added our first opera to the Aria Database in several years: Mark Adamo's Little Women. This opera is only available in the new interface. As we reinvigorate our data, other new operas will be added as well.
